TripAdvisor Wants Facebook App? Zuckerberg to Leave Millions on the Table

What a Facebook week it was!

While the requisite super Facebook hype was alive and well with GEEKS GONE WILD for Facebook on the iPhone, everyone’s favorite social graph found itself doling out a lot of heavy handed DMCA pokes in an effort to preserve the sancity of its own code.

To top of the week, the latest Facebook rumor has TripAdvisor buying third-party Facebook Platform application Where I’ve Been for $3 million.

YAY? If so, for Where I’ve Been, but what about for Facebook?

“Build a business” Facebook touts to prospective Facebook developers, on the back of Facebook!

With Facebook’s unique social context, you can make relevant appplications that users will love. And you’ve got the freedom to monetize the way you want; Build a business around your Facebook application.

BUT don’t share the riches with Facebook!

In a muti-million dollar acquisition of a Facebook application by a third party, Facebook could effectively be leaving millions on the table.

Facebook demands of platform application developers include: Do NOT call us a “college site” and do NOT call us a “social networking site.”

PLUS, do not show us the money?

You retain all right, title and interest in and to, Facebook Platform Applications you create.

And the right to pocket any and all proceeds of a sale of your Facebook application, without sharing the bounty with Facebook.

Is THAT any way to run a multi-billion dollar IPO target, Mark?
