Google vs. Facebook, the Next Big Battle

Is Google gunning for Facebook? Why wouldn’t it be?

Google declared Microsoft its number one competitive threat, followed by Yahoo, in its 2006 legally mandated annual SEC report to shareholders. Will Google soon be adding Facebook to its public short list of premiere competition to beat?

Google warns of Redmond: Microsoft not only has more employees and cash resources, but aims to increasingly integrate Web search into its Windows operating system and desktop software products.

On the Yahoo versus Google front, the longer Yahoo operating history and more established relationships with customers and end users is recognized by Google as a Yahoo competitive advantage.

What about Facebook? Mark Zuckerberg supposedly turned down a cool billion dollars from Yahoo to stay a Facebook multi-billion dollar IPO course.

The big Google guns “like the Facebook guys,” we learned from Sergey Brin at last month’s Allen & Co. conference, and the top Googlers are impressed that Facebook wants to “build a great company on its own.”

Zuckerberg is NOT the Google pushover YouTube kings Chad & Steve were. In fact, Zuckerberg strives to keep the Google deep crawlers OUT of his not so open social networking platfiorm in order to maintain a Facebook aura of exculsivity and conserve the Facebook vaunted notion of private friendship.

Zuckerberg has even set his sites on out Googling Google in both people search and overall traction.

What is Google to do then? Google fears a closed Facebook rising.

In Why Google MUST Buy Facebook: Universal Search Envy I analyze how Google is decrying that the “lots and lots” of content and Web pages that millions of Facebookers are generating is NOT within Google’s search grasp, yet.

Solution? Lead a movement to open Facebook up, for the good of the community, of course.
