Google GPay SMS Payments Patent? GCash ALREADY Alive and Well
Google is being schooled on how old school a patent application for a “text message payment” system” is.
BUT, Google may also need to do more homework on trademark: GCash, big case in point. Globe Telecom proudly calls itself the “pioneer in M-commerce” with its “pioneering GCash.
For Google, though, what could be more Googley than spreading a little gCash around, via SMS? In “illustrating” how a GPay payment system could work, Google “gCash” comes to the rescue of ”veggie girl” to “permit payment from a payor to a payee.”
Google may believe the mighty Google G is destined to rule in all things cash, but GCash is ALREADY alive and well, at the service of a different company, Globe Telecom.
Globe Telecom’s GCash “transforms mobile phones into mobile wallets” that can be used in a variety of transactions, such as Google’s “veggie girl” sales, perhaps.

The Google gCash “veggie girl” vision:
Such a vendor typically takes only cash payments, because credit-card processing equipment is expensive and hard to attach outdoors. BUT, the vendor may not want to deal solely in cash. A way to pay without cash: A customer uses a mobile device such as a cellular telephone or smart phone, to conduct a transaction with the vendor, who also has a mobile device. Both devices are wireless, so that they may communicate easily in almost any area. The vendor may have an account with an on-line payment service, and may have an identifier by which the person is known by the system. In the figure, the vendor calls herself “veggiegirl.” She may post this identifier somewhere near her booth, along with displays that show shoppers that the identifier relates to the particular on-line payment service.
A shopper may select products from the vendor’s display, and may enter an SMS text message directed at the on-line payment service. The message can contain the vendor identifier and a transaction amount. The transaction may occur while the vendor packages the goods, and the on-line payment service may text message a confirmation of the transaction to the vendor.
While Google envisions gCash. Globe Telecom is making GCash.
