MySpace is the Anti Facebook: 200 million Friends BEAT Zuckerberg Cliques
What does Mark Zuckerberg REALLY want? To close down the Web!
Yes, the big, bad Facebook Internet domination irony is that Zuckerberg aims to rule an open Web, by controlling his own closed, proprietary Intranet.
Zuckerberg boasted at the F8 launch: “We’re the sixth most trafficked site in the U.S…we recently passed eBay in traffic and we’re working on passing Google, too.”
Does the 23 year old “inventor” of Facebook have a shot to become the Web’s number one gate keeper? The Jeff Pulvers and Robert Scobles of the tech world want us to believe so, and are prostelysing to help make us all get Facebook religion.
Out in the real, open world, however, MySpace STILL rules, because MySpace IS a real, open world.
“A Space for Us,” Pagan Kennedy chronicles in the New York Times:
Usually, writers don’t interact much with their readers. Even at bookstore appearances, we may not run into hard-core fans, who often are suspicious of group activities and would rather just meet on the page. When we write, we’re alone. We stare at the computer screen, picturing our imaginary audience as we type.
But for authors and readers, MySpace offers something entirely new: a forum where we can finally meet and get to know one another, or even collaborate in literary games.
Because MySpace IS an open, friendly place, Kennedy was able to: “Spy on dozens of fans’ pages and find out wierdly intimate data about them,” in a good getting to know them way.
Tom Anderson sets the open, MySpace democracy tone because he wants everyone as a friend.
Facebook management, however, builds walls, unfriendly ones, discouraging new friendships and encouraging cliques.
Facebook’s Carolyn Abram proudly confirms just how unfriendly she is, at her beloved Facebook.
Since my last post, I have received and rejected over eighty friend requests from people I don’t know.
Congratulations? Facebook’s Abram extols how difficult it is to be her Facebook “friend” because she is “selective as to whom I accept”
I’ve even removed several people I barely knew, and others that weren’t a part of my world anymore.
Yay? Abram must be happy Facebook will close down the Scobleizer at a mere 5000 Facebook friends. SEE Hey Facebook! Free Robert Scoble: Unlock Your 5000 Friend Quota
