CNET Rains on Yahoo and TechCrunch 40 Parades

TechCrunch presents Yahoo Mash? Will it be presenting Yahoo Teachers, come tommorow?

LA’s Emmy Awards are tonight: BUT WHO REALLY CARES!

The real award we have all been counting down to is Silicon Valley’s Michael Arrington–and Jason Calacanis– $50,000 no-strings-attached payout for the next big Web thing, as determined by Mike, Jason and their merry band of “industry experts” that is to be doled out this week at the soon to be world-famous TechCrunch 40, high-powered two-day Demo extravaganza at The Palace Hotel.

What’s more, the big Web guys are purportedly also waiting for TechCrunch 40 to unveil their latest, greatest, razzle and dazzle them Web 2.0 add-ons, as Arrington has been teasing up a storm.

But have they really?

CNET’s Rafe Needleman throws some cold water on the count down to TechCrunch exclusive announcement glory: “Yahoo Yawner on Monday, Teachers Demo”:

I was very much looking forward to Yahoo’s announcement Monday at the TechCrunch 40 conference. Yahoo will indeed demo a social network at TechCrunch 40, a spokesperson told me on the record. We’ll see Yahoo Teachers, a site designed for grade school instructors that Yahoo has already talked about and for which there is already an official video demo. That’s it. No big unveiling.

Old Yahoo news then, repackaged for coming out glory at TechCrunch 40? The same may be the fate for Google’s TechCrunch foray. Arrington said on Friday he got permission form Google to say “Google will present something at TechCrunch40.”

What could our old, shy friend Google be up to that it would wait for TechCrunch 40 to unveil to the world?

No Googley shock and awe at the just finished Office 2.0 Conference, despite pre-rumors of Google FINALLY integrating JotSpot into Google Apps and FINALLY offering a “PowerPoint killer.”

This weekend’s TechMeme rumor fest has Google FINALLY Google Gears enabling Gmail.

Will Google AND TechCrunch shock us all by NOT “unveiling” a mere Google “yawner.”

The envelope please….oh, that is for tonight’s Emmys! Tommorow is when the real action starts!
